Soft PVC

Soft PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) is a very traditional material, which originated in the 1930s. Soft PVC is a material with special properties, and has a perfect price/quality ratio.

Are you looking for an inexpensive material with great visual properties, chemical resistance and durability? Then soft PVC would be a very good option for your product.

PVC has very good insulation properties and can be made to be very fire-retardant, which is why it is very often used in the electronics industry. It can also be used as a sealing material, thanks to its good chemical and UV resistance.

In addition, soft PVC is easy to glue and print on, giving it clear advantages as opposed to thermoplastic elastomers.

A disadvantage of soft PVC is its bad reputation. Soft PVC used to contain Phthalate-based plasticisers, which were toxic to human health. Though these substances are still used in some parts of the world, we only work with phthalate-free materials produced in Europe. The fact that most of the soft PVCs we use are approved for use in toys shows that soft PVC is a high-demand material now as well.

Typical properties of soft PVC are:

  • Temperature reach: -40°C to +90°C
  • Hardness: 35 Shore A – 70 Shore D
  • Oil resistance: good
  • Acid resistance: good
  • Base resistance: moderate
  • Deterioration (ozone) resistance: excellent
