In many cases, thermoplastic elastomers can be used instead of traditional elastomers. The use of TPE offers many advantages. That is why we say: unless it’s absolutely impossible, it is always a good idea to use thermoplastic rubber instead of traditional rubber or silicone.
TPEs are processed with injection moulds. This process allows for short cycles, making this production method much more efficient than with elastomers. TPEs are also thermoplastic, meaning that the materials are recyclable. Waste resulting from production can thus be directly re-added to the process, producing no waste at all.
These process advantages almost always enable cost savings.
More can be done with TPE than you might think. To make good use of all the advantages of TPE, it is important to look at material choices at an early stage in the design process.
